gsim · you are the government

Five years. One country. Everything else keeps happening.

Every country on this map is running — growing, borrowing, holding elections, occasionally falling over. Pick one and you govern it for a term.

What happens to you

Matters land on your desk with a clock on each. You cannot answer them all, and the ones you leave settle themselves in ways somebody already wrote down.

What you came to do

Programmes take two to four years and change how the country works afterwards. Several finish after you have gone.

Both halves spend the same thing: political capital. A term of well-handled crises ends with nothing built, and that is the whole game.

Your honeymoon is the cheapest capital you will ever have and it is gone by month ten. What you start in the first year is most of what you finish.

At the end, the country votes. It weighs the last twelve months roughly as heavily as the first three years together — so when a reform lands matters as much as whether it does.
